Vally Sharpe is a wonderful editor. She has the life experience and writing know-how to do the job to the highest degree. She is thorough and complete in her work, sensitive to the needs and concerns of the author, perceptive to the nuances of one’s writing, and listens and hears what you say. Vally knows where to push and ask for change and where to give in. She takes your work seriously and loves it as if it were her own.
She is trustworthy—a necessary attribute for an editor working with authors who need to let go and allow an editor to rework their material, and she knows her boundaries. I have found her work to be excellent and I would highly recommend her as an editor.

Ed Callison and I developed the idea of co-writing a book based on our individual experiences going through esophageal cancer. I had collections of emails written by me to family and friends over the five years I went through the ravages of treatment for Stage 4B inoperable and "incurable" adenocarcinoma.
Ed, a survivor of Stage 2 EC surgery and chemotherapy, had prior experience with Jan Lowe and Vally Sharpe with a book he had written on his Vietnam experiences. He submitted my batch of emails and his retrospective story and they produced a well-integrated and professionally-designed book. Journeys through Cancer and Faith is available both in print and as an ebook for Kindle and Nook, and we've already ordered reprints!
For new authors who have limited funds and little knowledge of how to get a book produced and available to the public, United Writers is an ideal vehicle.

Betsy Gilbert worked with me this year in helping to bring my feature length script to a professional and tightly written screenplay. I had interviewed several writers, and despite geographic distance (I am in New York City), I am thrilled I chose Betsy. She continuously demonstrated exemplary professionalism, creativity, and enthusiasm towards the work and was a joy to work with. My screenplay is currently being read by a studio and I have every reason to believe it will soon be in production.
I highly recommend Betsy for any writing project.

As the author of three published novels, my work frequently demands fresh ideas or an unbiased output. This is where Betsy Gilbert's professional expertise comes into play. She has a flair for ideas and writing which is second to none…
I would have no hesitation whatsoever in using or recommending Betsy to anyone.

I interviewed many talented writers about helping me write my book, but none seemed willing or able to truly understand the real John Loan…[until] I found Betsy Gilbert. She took a very difficult part of my life and had me work through it in an honest way. The resulting book, Remembering With Hope, is something I am extremely proud of.
