Just imagine. You're eight years old and you've spent most of your life in a Russian orphanage. You've heard about Moscow and the United States, perhaps, but you've never been to a really big city, you've never eaten at a restaurant (even McDonalds), a hotel is outside of your imagination, and for goodness' sake, you've certainly never ridden on an airplane!

Add to that new parents who don't speak your language...and you begin to get an idea of what new things await Ilya (Jack) in this new little book, Jack's New Family.

Learning through on-the-job training about adjustment issues such as these when she adopted her daughter Alesia in 2004, author Dee Thompson set out to try and smooth the transition (a little) for her second adoptive child, a son, Michael, who became a member of the family in April 2007.

Written in both Russian and English, this book will be of great value to its obvious audience—older children adopted from Russia and its surrounding states—but it offers, too, a reminder to the rest of us that the world looks different when you look at it through different eyes.
